12th March - Chinon France

Chinon

There was no rush to leave Honfleur today, we (I) done all the services and we set off mid morning. The destination was Saumur but there was a problem. The two camping car parks in the area were closed due to recent flooding and a campsite that was a backup opened in April.

Rather than use the toll roads todays route avoided them, definately a slower journey, lots of slow tractors and towns to negotiate but it was worth it to have some time to see the real France. The main negative was that it made you realise how far behind we are in the UK with roads, cleanliness, in fact just about everything.

The day was going to be lost to travel so we changed plan and stopped at a Camping Car Park in Chinon where there was a fort / castle worth a visit. There always was a plan to get most of central France out the way quite quickly on the way South and spend more time here on the way back North when the weather improves.

Tomorrow we hope to make our way to Château de Saumura in the town of Samur a few miles away, there is a free car park there where we can stop for the day.
